Bradford fifth graders celebrated Dia de los Muertos on Friday, November 2, with a visit from the Montclair State University Spanish Club. Senora Grodner arranged this special presentation for the fifth graders. Dia de los Muertos is a holiday for families and friends to gather, pray for, honor, celebrate, and remember friends and family members who have died.
Students created face masks which is a tradition in Mexico and other countries on this day. The most common design is to paint the face to resemble a skull, which has a positive meaning for the holiday.
Students also learned a Spanish song accompanied by a "flautista," (flutist) from MSU (see pic above), and they also got to sample "pan de muerto," a sweet bread baked in Mexico during the holiday.
