Deadline Extended to December 18, 2022
For the second year in a row, the Montclair PTA Council is participating in the National PTA’s 2022-2023 Reflections Arts Program. The program/contest provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
The 2022-2023 Reflections theme comes from contest winner Jason Yevin, a 10th grader from Salk/Macarthur PTSA in New York. His theme, “Show Your Voice,” is a reference to what the year 2020 was like. At the time of writing and submitting his theme to the competition, the Black Lives Matter protest was huge, and so was wearing masks during COVID-19. The phrase represents talking over the masks and it represents that the protesters showed their voice in what they believe was right and fair.
All students in all grades in Montclair are eligible to participate and may submit their completed works of art in the following categories: visual arts, photography, music composition, literature, film production and dance choreography. Students who identify as having a disability and may receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504 may enter in the Special Artist Division or grade division most closely aligned to their functional abilities. Deadline extended to December 18, 2022.
