Glenfield Middle School recently hosted a Family Night, a collaborative event between the Glenfield School Community, Montclair Education Association, Restorative Justice Montclair, School Action Team for Partnership and the Culturally Responsive Committee. Through a generous PRIDE grant funded by the NJEA, the event included food, a raffle off prizes and a host of activities for our families to participate in including crafting, board games, fitness/yoga/pilates, a restorative circle and a three-on-three basketball challenge. The rain wasn’t enough of a deterrent to keep families away as over 250 people attended not including staff members and invited guests. Interim Principal Dr. Lisa Rollins increased the excitement for the event when she announced that the House that had the most attendees would receive a pizza party. That honor went to House Anderson.
“We are grateful for the support of Gayl Shepard, the Restorative Justice Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Kalisha Morgan, outgoing Board of Education President Latifah Jannah, Board of Education member Crystal Hopkins, Glenfield parent and incoming Board of Education member Brian Fleischer, Robert Kelley, Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, Charles Murphy, Head of Security, Stacey Mentor and Joseph Davis, Founder of the Brother to Brother mentorship initiative, who all came and participated in the night’s festivities,” said Rollins. “I would also like to thank the amazing Glenfield Staff that came out to support this event. You rock! A special ‘thank you’ goes out to Syreeta Carrington Teacher on Special Assignment for Restorative Justice at Glenfield Middle and Stevana Sims, HIB Specialist who co-created and organized this event. Their dedication and efforts to the Glenfield Community goes unmatched. We are hoping to make Glenfield Family Night an annual event.”
