Charles H. Bullock students participated in a public transportation/train safety assembly on Tues., Feb. 21, presented by Opal McCalla, Safety Education Program Specialist, Office of System Safety, New Jersey Transit.
This was the first of several presentations that will be given to Montclair schools including Renaissance and Glenfield.
The free, 45-minute in-person workshop provided increased awareness about public transportation safety, with a specific focus on the fundamental skills of learning about the different forms of public transportation, how to be safe when using public transportation, transit signs, signals, and designated crossing areas.
The assembly included age-appropriate videos and materials. “This presentation was extremely useful,” said Principal Nami Kuwabara. "Our students were totally engaged. Many of them actually thought it was OK to be on the tracks even if there’s no train in sight. This is exactly why this assembly mattered. They are now train safety ambassadors.”
