Twenty-six Montclair High School seniors were honored at a ceremony at Montclair High School for having attained the New Jersey Seal of Biliteracy across five languages: French, Italian, Polish, German, and Spanish. This was the Montclair Public Schools’ fourth year participating in the program. Principal Jeffrey Freeman, Assistant Principals Jeff Gannon, Reginald Clark, and Supervisor of World Languages and ESL Dr. Vicky Chang presented students with their certificates.
“On behalf of the Montclair Public Schools District, we want to congratulate all the 26 NJ Seal of Biliteracy award recipients,” said Chang. “By language, 15 Seals were earned in Spanish, seven in French, two in German, one in Italian, and one in Polish. Two of this year’s recipients are former English Language Learner students.”
The Seal of Biliteracy is an official recognition from the New Jersey Department of Education. The Seal is a nationally recognized credential that attests to each recipient’s unwavering dedication to proficiency and global citizenship. The Seal affirms that these seniors are prepared to utilize the language that they have acquired as they commence their post-secondary pursuits.
Recipients of the Seal of Biliteracy will receive an official certificate from the NJDOE, as well as a medallion to wear at graduation. They will also be honored at the April 19 Board of Education meeting where a video of the ceremony will be shown.
