The Newark and Suburban Architects’ Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) hosted an art contest for students throughout North Jersey to portray an architectural building, group of buildings or place defined by architecture which incorporated a holiday feeling or setting.
Buzz Aldrin students in Jeannette Rodriguez’ spring architecture class submitted their artwork and received multiple awards in the Middle School categories.
Gold Award: Arianna Lamb
Silver Award: Emily Gyan, Mason Lin
Bronze Award: Lily Kikata, James Rae, Lena Shapiro, Hanna Nwoso
Honorable Mention: Clara Brooks-LaBlanc, Anna Rutledge, Mia Wallace, Isabelle Hayes
Students’ artwork will be featured in a free public exhibition at the main branch of the Montclair Public Library beginning April 5. A reception (free and open to the public) for the winners will be held at the Library Saturday, April 22, 10 am-1 pm.
“Everyone’s work was beautiful and thoughtful, and it made us very proud,” said Rodriguez. “Thanks to John Fallon and Robert Epstein from AIA for extending the invitation to participate in this contest, for facilitating the opportunity and to all the architecture students who participated.”
