Hundreds of people, including family, friends, local dignitaries and community members gathered at Montclair High School’s Field House on Sat., Oct. 13 for the dedication of the Aubrey Lewis Sports Complex. Located at 28 Essex Ave., the complex is comprised of Fortunato Field, Woodman Field, Furlong Field House, and other structures yet to be constructed in the area. Lewis graduated in 1954 from Montclair High School and was a renowned and respected athlete and business man.

Superintendent Kendra V. Johnson led the unveiling ceremony. Hillside's Drums of Thunder, led by director Lou D'Amico, were on hand to give a rousing performance. Among the speakers who shared their thoughts were Mayor Robert Jackson, Board President Laura Hertzog, former Mountie and former President of the National League Len Coleman ’67, former New York Giant David Tyree ’98, and former Board Vice President Franklin Turner. Several of Lewis’ family members took the podium, giving the audience the most personal and heartfelt glimpse into the life of this Montclair legend.
