Montclair schools celebrated Read Across America, an annual nationwide reading initiative created by the National Education Association that began in 1997 and coincides with Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
Hillside School had a special visitor, the Cat in the Hat! Hillside secretary Stacey Best won the visit after entering the school in a contest at the NJEA convention in November (see below with "autographed" book the school also received also pictured, Acting Principal Bruce Dabney). Students lined the hallways with books of their choice for a schoolwide “Read In,” as the Cat in the Hat made his way around high-fiving and encouraging reading.
The
Charles H. Bullock School 2nd graders got a treat learning about myths, fables and tall tales from “Ben Franklin.”
Northeast also enjoyed a visit from the Cat in the Hat in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
Watchung School celebrated Read Across America with a day filled with special guest readers from the Montclair community who took time out of their busy schedules to read to students. Edgemont held “Crazy Sock Day,” as a tribute to Dr. Seuss’s “Fox in Sox” and continued its book swap, highlighting the school’s Book Club selection, “Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures!” by Kate DiCamillo.
