Twenty-six Montclair High School seniors were honored at a luncheon at Montclair High School for having attained the New Jersey Seal of Biliteracy across three languages: Spanish, French and Russian. This was the Montclair Public Schools’ fifth year participating in the program. Superintendent Jonathan Ponds offered welcoming remarks and Office of ESL/World Languages/Bilingual Supervisor Yasmin Hernandez quoted U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona, stating “Bilingualism is a Superpower.”  MHS World Language teachers and high school administrators, particularly Judith Grodner were also acknowledged for their hard work and dedication to ensuring the importance of preparing students to become Bilingual.

The Seal of Biliteracy is an official recognition from the New Jersey Department of Education. The Seal is a nationally recognized credential that attests to each recipient’s unwavering dedication to proficiency and global citizenship. The Seal affirms that these seniors are prepared to utilize the language that they have acquired as they commence their post-secondary pursuits.

Recipients of the Seal of Biliteracy will receive an official certificate from the NJDOE, as well as a medallion to wear at graduation. They will also be honored at MHS’ Senior Awards Night on June 6.
