The Montclair Education Association's Ninth Annual Wrap & Roll "Thru," the festive, charitable holiday event that yearly brings the Montclair community together for a time of sharing, giving, and celebration, will take place on Sunday, December 6, 2020. This event will have a gift drop-off time from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and a gift pick-up time between 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Montclair High School Annex Parking Lot (North Fullerton Entrance).
"Although this year may look different from previous Wrap & Roll events," said MEA President Petal Robertson. "The MEA is committed to continuing our tradition of giving to Montclair families in need, especially during this unique holiday season."
In the weeks leading up to Wrap & Roll "Thru," Student Assistance Counselors and Child Study Teams in each Montclair Public School building identify families in need. The solicitation of gifts is coordinated in each school and the Developmental Learning Center (DLC) by the PTAs and School Action Teams. Each of the eleven Montclair Public Schools and the DLC will drop off their donated, pre-wrapped gifts to the Wrap & Roll "Thru" Winter Wonderland. With festive music playing, families will receive their gifts and a small bag of treats from socially distanced, masked volunteers.
A drive-through, pick-up line will be set up in the MHS Annex parking lot for those driving to the event. No one may leave their cars, and everyone in the cars must be wearing masks. Volunteers will hand the bags of supplies through car windows.
Walkers must also wear masks and will be asked to join a socially distanced line in the parking lot. Volunteers will hand gifts to families.
The MEA is an inclusive union representing more than 1,000 educators employed by the Montclair Board of Education, including teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, security staff, nurses, secretaries, buildings, and grounds staff and technical personnel.
The MEA receives support for Wrap & Roll by a grant from the New Jersey Education Association's PRIDE in Public Education and Families and Schools Together (FAST) programs.
